Review of supply of Assistive Hearing Technology
(CSPN - 2016/28)

As part of the Hearing Services Program NDIS Transition Plan, a Review of Supply of Assistive Hearing Technology (AHT) has commenced.

What is the review about?

The review will analyse the benefits and challenges of the current supply model for AHT and will consider other supply models. Information about Work package 6 – review of supply of AHT is available on the Hearing Services website.

How can I be part of the consultation process?

The scope of the Review of Service Items and Fees has been expanded to incorporate the Review of supply of AHT. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have been engaged for these reviews, and will shortly commence their initial information gathering for the Review of supply of AHT with targeted stakeholders from consumer groups and the hearing industry.

As part of the AHT review, PwC will be conducting two surveys. The first is for device manufacturers, and the second for Contracted Service Providers and qualified practitioners working within the Hearing Services Program. Further information on the surveys will be available in January 2017.

After this initial phase, PwC will release a public consultation paper outlining options for service items, fees and AHT in early 2017. You can submit a written response to the discussion paper on the PwC website when it is released. PwC will then consider this feedback before preparing a final report in late 2017.

We encourage you to read this important document when it is available and provide feedback to inform the review. If you have any queries about the review, please email hearing@health.gov.au.
